Our Story
At the heart of O Tino lies a tale that weaves together cultures, love, and a passion for authentic cuisine. O Tino is a family-run endeavour, ignited by the flames of Tino and Elizabeth's love, which now finds Pedro and Denise, their children, steering the ship. This restaurant symbolises the harmonious fusion of the diverse backgrounds of its founders.
Elizabeth, affectionately known as 'Grandma,' drew her first breaths in Angola, Africa. An era of turmoil saw her migrate to Portugal in the 1960s. On a different shore, 'Grandpa' Tino took his initial steps on the Portuguese island of Madeira in the 1950s. Fate played its hand when he was stationed in Angola as a soldier. Yet, it wasn't until Portugal that their paths converged, their lives united in marriage and a culinary journey. Their first restaurant blossomed in Almada, Portugal, before destiny guided them across the seas to the United Kingdom, bringing along their son Pedro and daughter Denise.
Rewinding time, 'Grandpa' Tino forged cherished memories in a quaint Camden restaurant. In 2009, the family seized the reins of that very establishment, birthing O Tino's. It was here that 'Grandma' Elizabeth, armed with her traditional Portuguese recipes and boundless affection, infused the kitchen with a warm glow. Patrons returned not only for her delectable dishes but also for the heartwarming embrace of her hospitality.
Then came the unforeseen tempest of 2020—the COVID-19 pandemic. The doors, once bustling with laughter and camaraderie, were shuttered in late March. But adversity struck closer to home when 'Grandpa' Tino himself confronted the virus, spending 14 challenging weeks in the hospital, a dozen of which were in intensive care. Gratitude fills our hearts as we celebrate his triumphant journey to recovery.
Amidst these trials, the baton passed to the next generation. Pedro and Denise assumed the helm, steering the course forward with unshaken determination. The walls bore witness to transformation as refurbishments unfurled their potential. As we chart the course ahead, we eagerly anticipate reuniting with cherished patrons, and opening our doors anew to welcome newcomers into our fold.
While our dishes shall retain their timeless authenticity and mouthwatering flavours, our abode shall unveil a new, captivating decor. At O Tino's, the story endures—of resilience, unity, and a culinary tapestry that spans continents. No coração do O Tino reside um conto que entrelaça culturas, amor e uma paixão pela culinária autêntica. O Tino é um empreendimento familiar, incendiado pelas chamas do amor de Tino e Elizabeth, que agora têm Pedro e Denise, seus filhos, no comando. Este restaurante simboliza a fusão harmoniosa das diversas origens dos seus fundadores.
Elizabeth, carinhosamente conhecida como 'Avó', deu os seus primeiros suspiros em Angola, África. Uma era de turbulência a viu migrar para Portugal na década de 1960. Numa costa diferente, 'Avô' Tino deu os seus primeiros passos na ilha portuguesa da Madeira nos anos 50. O destino jogou as suas cartas quando ele foi destacado para Angola como soldado. Contudo, só em Portugal é que os seus caminhos convergiram, as suas vidas unidas pelo casamento e por uma jornada culinária. O primeiro restaurante deles floresceu em Almada, Portugal, antes do destino os guiar através dos mares até ao Reino Unido, trazendo consigo o seu filho Pedro e a filha Denise.
Voltando atrás no tempo, 'Avô' Tino forjou memórias queridas num pitoresco restaurante em Camden. Em 2009, a família tomou as rédeas desse estabelecimento, dando à luz o O Tino. Foi aqui que 'Avó' Elizabeth, armada com as suas receitas tradicionais portuguesas e um afeto sem limites, encheu a cozinha de um brilho caloroso. Os clientes regressaram não só pelos seus pratos deliciosos, mas também pelo abraço caloroso da sua hospitalidade.
Depois veio a tempestade imprevista de 2020 - a pandemia da COVID-19. As portas, outrora cheias de risos e camaradagem, foram fechadas no final de março. Mas a adversidade atingiu mais perto de casa quando 'Avô' Tino enfrentou o vírus, passando 14 semanas desafiantes no hospital, 12 das quais em cuidados intensivos. A gratidão enche os nossos corações enquanto celebramos a sua jornada triunfante rumo à recuperação.
Em meio a estas provações, o bastão passou para a próxima geração. Pedro e Denise assumiram o leme, guiando o curso com determinação inabalável. As paredes testemunharam a transformação enquanto as renovações desdobravam o seu potencial. Enquanto traçamos o caminho à frente, aguardamos ansiosamente o reencontro com os estimados clientes e a abertura das nossas portas para acolher os recém-chegados.
Enquanto os nossos pratos mantêm a sua autenticidade intemporal e sabores irresistíveis, a nossa morada revelará uma nova e cativante decoração.
